My wife and did an Alien Quadrilogy marathon this weekend, and...Look, Alien Resurrection was never a good #film, but I'm surprised how poorly it has aged compared to the first 3.It's so full of cringe dialogue and terrible 1990s moviemaking tropes. And most of the actors seem like they were cast to be goofy caricatures of sci-fi/military characters.WHAT WENT WRONG?(Sidenote: the original Alien is timeless, and perhaps the ONLY film of these first 4 that I classify as horror/suspense.)

@killyourfm I think the online consensus is that Alien and Aliens are both very good but quite different. I've seen both those and quite enjoyed them but haven't seen the third, would you recommend it? đ

@cleinz I don't recommend it, but it's worth watching once. Only if you watch what's known as The Assembly Cut which is closer to David Fincher"s vision.

@killyourfm I have a soft spot for Alien Resurrection. I won't argue it's a great film but i'll take it over many movies released in the last decade. Alien 3 is always the one I feel bad for. Will always ask what could have been had Fox left David Fincher alone. Could have had an Alien movie of the quality of Se7en.

@killyourfm Alien to me is great, Aliens is good, Alien 3 is ok. I watched Alien 4 and thought S Weaver is the only aspect I enjoyed here. Everything after is probably a waste of time, heard Prometheus is not bad tho.

@killyourfm have you seen the newer films in the series? Like Prometheus and Covenant? Worth a watch if you enjoy the series, even if you don't end up enjoying the films. I personally really liked them, though not everyone shares my opinion

@JeremyDood There is some world-class acting in Alien 3 (thanks Charles Dance & Charles S. Sutton), and a lot of the shots are so effective in creating that mood of despair and feeling trapped.I didn't appreciate it until I saw The Assembly Cut.

@Faz @killyourfm I wholeheartedly agree on your senitment concerning Alien 3. I really like the movie - especially the funeral/birthing scene at the beginning. That was masterfully cut (in the directors cut).

@killyourfm @pep it's not really a director's cut though. Fincher on record somewhere saying the whole experience almost put him off making films forever. Thankfully he didn't stop!
