One of the perks of having your own instance all for yourself is that you can set the toot character limit to be whatever you like...You can't tell me that to do! :anarchy:

@tiago not sure if such long posts are shown properly elsewhere.

@FrohlichMarcel Yes they are. The protocol supports them. You just need to click to show more. But don't worry, I don't plan to post toots with 5000 characters. 😅I just don't want to play twitter golf anymore.

@tiago the largest limit I’ve seen was 64kb, which is fine with protocol, but maybe not with all client implementations.Big enough to publish reasonable sized structured data graphs in a single message using RDF an TRIG :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TriG_(syntax)

@FrohlichMarcel I don't think this is a problem, since clients can handle images that are larger than this, and they can even cache video.Clients must handle what the protocol says.Such sizes are not reasonable for micro-blogging, but I think ActivityPub has other potential uses.

@tiago hi, what do you think is a good option for non-tch people? Pay hosted? I think self hosted is not so simple...

@giuseppegv I think non-tech people should just join an existing instance, unless they are interesting in learning, in which case self-hosting is great.
