@fitheach I hear extra storage is something of a large bill, at least they're up front about it

The new website is progressing. I've imported the existing website using Pelican's built-in facility, and the RSS feed. It doesn't import and convert to reStructuredText, rather it quotes the HTML. That's not a problem.Unless I missed something, the import didn't copy down the images. Instead, it linked to the images on the existing website. Not to worry. I've copied the images locally, and will amend the links in the source files.#MyWeb #pelican #python

After a short hiatus, I'm back working on my replacement website.I wanted to maintain my existing (and plan for new) photo galleries. Pelican doesn't handle galleries, and the main image plugin, Photos, didn't do what I wanted. However, I discovered Sigal, which is exactly what I needed. Sigal isn't a plugin for Pelican, but, having a separate app just for creating galleries isn't a problem.http://sigal.saimon.org/en/latest/#MyWeb #pelican #python #FOSS #FLOSS

@fitheach I once wrote a thing that did something like that in asp.net. Not very sophisticated, point it at a folder and it'd display paged thumbnails with full size on click.

@fitheach interesting. I've been thinking about (procrastinating, actually) going a similar route. OTOH Photoprism looks very good as well and in terms of functionality is closer to the commercial service I currently use. Hm...

@fedops Photoprism looks fancy. Also has fancy hosting requirements, and they recommend ... Docker. 😱 For me, Sigal does what I want, is relatively simple, and the server only needs Nginx or Apache.

@fitheach just because they recommend docker doesn't mean you have to use it. Although there's nothing wrong per se with it I think. What u don't like about either is that they require js on the client. But I guess there really isnt a way around that.

@fedops I haven't read all the docs, but, I didn't see a guide to installing without Docker.Anyway, PhotoPrism is a big web app, hence the high hardware requirements. Sigal just requires a web server, and js on the client.Part of my reasoning for using a SSG was to get away from managing relatively complex web apps.

@Glencoe The advantage of Sigal is it runs on my laptop. I only upload HTML and JPEGs to the server. That fits nicely with Pelican for thw website.I've never used asp.net, what is it like?
