The obsessive librarian in me is itching to catalogue the *huge* explosion of articles about Mastodon and the 'verse that have turned up in the last couple of weeks. If, as I suspect, I have COVID, maybe I'll take my laptop to bed and do this.

Don't know if what I've got is COVID but it sucks and nobody else wants it. So I've been isolating in bed with mobile and now laptop. Started cataloguing fediverse coverage on the web yesterday. Just chucked it on an Etherpad until I find a more permanent home for it:https://pad.disroot.org/p/fediverse-on-the-web

I can't help but notice the inaccuracies in many of these articles, some of it minor stuff that could still be misleading for readers, some of it just factually wrong. Most of them don't mention the fediverse and the few that do don't make it clear it's bigger than Mastodon. I don't care about the blog posts (nobody reads your blog) but the articles on sites representing themselves as news media, with editors responsible for fact-checking, ought to be corrected.

Ouch! Not good news to know you got the âvirus. You are spot on as always @strypey. I wrote to as many authors I could see. Newspaper article authors do need to be careful about these mistakes. A lot of journalists tend to equate #Mastodon with #Fediverse.

@arinbasu1Maybe they just need a pubic quote from an org like the FSF/EFF saying something like;When Gargron started the Mastodon project in 2016, it joined an existing federated social network that came to be know informally as the "fediverse" (short for federated universe). Mastodon is now the most commonly used software in the fediverse, but servers running it still connect with servers running many other kind of software, like PixelFed for photo-blogging, and PeerTube for video.
