       I got inspired by setting up my own Mastodon instance and getting into this whole decentralised federated model to try out Matrix (https://matrix.org, @matrix). So, after some fiddling I managed to have a Matrix server running using Synapse. You can now IM me through @clemens:matrix.multiverset.net or come in and say hi in the public lobby of my server: #lobby:matrix.multiverset.net 😎

       @clemens @matrix How difficult do you think it would be to set up a server for a complete beginner? Would it be possible, or is it an unrealistic goal for the everyday-man? 🤔

       @bloodaxe @clemens probably unreasonable to run a secure server as a total beginner. we’re working on p2p to make it easy to get on board as a total beginner.

       @bloodaxe @matrix It will definitely be a learning experience. There are some moving parts involved in setting up a server: finding and setting up a host machine, getting a domain, pointing the domain to the right host, getting a certificate for https, setting up a reverse proxy, etc.

       @clemens @matrix I hope there are some videos or guides online that explains how to do the initial setup 😆 But ofc, I want it all to be secure after the fact as well... 🤔
