Two failed attempts to setup Pleroma/Soapbox with a custom account domain (getting account to be @<x>@y.com, instead of @<x>@z.y.com) I hear some account of folks saying they got Mastodon running cheap in the cloud and I have seen better documentation for it on Mastodon proper, so I may be going back.

@techsquidtv @techsquidtv what's the problem you're having exactly? mine runs off the base domain fine, didn't have to do anything different

@paul I'm trying to forward from my base domain to the subdomain. I have a static website at x.com and I have mastodon.x.comI had it working with nginx redirects so that if you searched @<me>@x.com or @<me>@mastodon.x.com my account would show up, but of course I only want the one to show up, and on my instance, mastodon.x.com, my profile showed with the subdomain too.So it worked, but it didn't

@techsquidtv Ah I see, sounds like you're trying to do something a little different to normal. Probably leave the redirect out of the equation for now.I think there are some configuration options though (under $url/pleroma/admin ) that allow the use of the base domain when a subdomain is in use - can't remember the actual config option right now, but seem to remember seeing it

@paul I then modified the variable for the host to remove the subdomain but that broke every API call in the front end 😂

@techsquidtv yeah, once things are set up you need to leave that variable set, changing it will break everything 😆

@paul I actually started over from scratch with the variable set before starting anything. I may have misunderstood a step maybe but I didn't think it would work when I was doing it.I'm going to start from scratch one more time with mastodon proper and see what happens

@techsquidtv I think you'll definitely need to set up as the subdomain if you have a static site hosted on the base domain, but the search as you need should still be configurable, just from within the system, not via reverse proxyAnyway, good luck with a masto set up!
