First spotting, for me, of a magpie near Inverness.Haven't seen one of them nearby before, they were a treat when visiting Aul Reekie and now they're here.A little concerning.#birding #birdspotting #scotland

@athairbirb I've lived in Edinburgh all my life, I didn't see a magpie until I was in my teens now I see them almost every day.

@athairbirb @Wizardofosmium I always see a few at the side of the Edinburgh bypass. Do they like road kill?I've never seen a magpie here. Jays are a more common sighting in recent times.

@fitheach I live close to the bypass, they'll be the ones I see. I've never seen a Jay, I found some feathers once in the hills south of Traquair but nothing near me.@athairbirb

@Wizardofosmium Jays like beech nuts, and, particularly, acorns. If you don't have those, you are unlikely to get jays.@athairbirb

@fitheach @Wizardofosmium there're a few nearby my house, they don't often come close as I think the crows chase them away as they nest nearby too. The Jay's are often easily seen, despite their distance.Gorgeous birds, better at a distance imo as they eat small birdlets

@WizardofosmiumMaybe you do have jays, you just haven't seen them. Unlike magpies and crows they are very shy.@athairbirb
