I was hopeful for Elon running Twitter, surely the new boss can't be any worse than the old boss. Oh how I was mistaken, we're still yet to see how he goes moderating the platform but from a technical perspective he seems to be making changes with no idea what impact they'll have

But if the fiasco with selling checkmarks and then crashing a few companies stock prices from people trolling with accounts that look completely real is anything to go by I don't expect the moderation to go well either.

@BrodieOnLinux I was hopeful for Elon to ruin Twitter, and maybe the Fediverse becoming a more known standard. And that is somewhat happening :02laugh:

@BrodieOnLinux Honestly, if the markets were willing to tank on such easy to verify info, they deserve it. At that point, your stock isn't being held up by the actual value of your company, but by speculators who buy and sell based only on trendlines and third-hand news. Events like these just throw that fact into rather sharp relief.

@BrodieOnLinux It has to be seen whether it will still have employees to run it, in a few weeks' time, as those they have not laid off are pushing them towards burnout

@BrodieOnLinux Twitter's human rights group who worked to protect activists, journalists & people affected by conflicts was eliminated. The team working on accessibility for the platform was cut as well. I consider accessibility an extremely important aspect and sadly one that is too often neglected. But of course Elon Musk doesn't care about people facing human rights violations or people with disabilities. He just wants to make Twitter "the most valuable financial product in the world".

@BrodieOnLinux Elon should do 8D chess, and purposely kill twitter to promote normies to the fediverse.

@BrodieOnLinux Elon Musk stated years ago that he would only buy Twitter to shut it down. If he destroys the company, I see that as his end goal the whole time regardless of what else he does with it. And honestly, wouldn't that be for the best? It would force people off of that platform and they would seek an alternative, of which Mastodon is their best bet. It would be good for decentralized social media as a whole, and I think it would be good for the entire socio-political situation that they aren't turning to Twitter as a primary weather vane for what people's opinions and attitudes are.

@BrodieOnLinux I felt the same way. But once he bought the company, I could tell from the decisions he was making (other than firing the employees) that it wasn't going to end up as it first seemed...Luckily I never joined Twitter and I happened to be on Mastodon!
