       On the other hand, keep in mind that this is a FREE service, provided by volunteers.And we don't have to provide this free service to people who are rude, insulting, prejudiced, racist, or those who do not care about this community.We don't have to provide it either to people who only come here to advertise, advertise, advertise all the time.Keep that in mind, and you will find that Mastodon (and SDF!) are much nicer than the other site.

       @ParadeGrotesque I deeply love how this is not optimized for building "platforms". It's a breath of fresh air.I won't lie it is also occasionally amusing to see some people show up here and huff and puff about "how am I going to get a big soap box to stand on this way?"

       @SarahAnneDipity This is really a difficult detox for a lot of people.The other platform has conditioned them to expect adulation and praise all the time. They won't get that here. The entitlement and addiction are both very strong.

       @ParadeGrotesque most definitely. Most social media is formatted to encourage you to make "content" that people will interact with, regardless of whether it's really what you want to communicate, even if you're not trying to be an influencer or promote something.I've been realizing how much that shaped what I was doing & saying. How many of my choices of what to say & how to say it were to get people to react. I wasn't doing it on purpose. It's just what everything on Twitter pushes you to do.

       @ParadeGrotesque That said, if I want to follow a company because I like their products (favorite car, smartphone, plastic building blocks) I should be able to do that. Nobody forces anyone else to follow them if they have a Mastadon presence.
