       One thing that's annoying the heck out of me is that I'm hearing of instances blocking other instances for petty reasons.One person I know on mastodon.social can't easily communicate with friends because their friends are on an instance that's blocking mastodon.social SOLELY because mastodon.social federates with another instance the disapprove of.Why not block the supposed foul instance instead? This petty thing is going to split the community and benefits no one.

       @zorinlynx It seems more devious than petty to me. It's a classic technique that cults use to isolate their members and make them more vulnerable. Do not communicate with outsiders, not even the nice ones, because they aren't enemies with the evil ones! You're either with us, or you're against us! And so the group becomes more insular, more controlled, and less in touch with reality.

       I joined mastodon.social a few years ago because it was the main instance around. Many of us who were early adopters did, and now we're being penalized by some instances unless we move. Note that mastodon.social isn't accepting new users, so it's not hard to block problem users here. The rules are sensible, and they're bringing more moderators online as far as I know.Let's not break this place before birdsite even goes down, huh guys?
