Interesting read about the scalability of mastodon.I don't notice this kind of problem in my instance, but it looks like there's plenty of room for optimization. Otherwise accounts with millions of followers will bring the whole thing down.Is the fediverse about to get Fryed? @tiago did that guy just realise that web requires scalability?

@datlinux I think it's more subtle that this. I expected the system to handle more requests than it actually does.

@tiago Does that have more to do with the web server rather than mastadon itself?

@tiago can't wait for mastodon to go the same way as e.g. @matrix is working on -- fully p2p with a server optimized to run on the client device so we get the ideally distributed 1 account per server.

@chester_tan @matrix I'm skeptical that this level of granularity will be achieved for mastodon. For chat it makes sense, since it is supposed to be transient and ephemeral. But micro-blogging is expected to have a certain degree of persistency. I want all my posts to be here if my laptop falls in a river.

@tiago @matrix I see your point... though there could be (maybe cloud) account backups, and P2P account syncing between multiple client devices (if e.g. people use @Mastodon on both their phones and laptops/desktops)?
