Has anyone else had issues with abdominal pain weeks after having Covid? Had a weird bout of it last week which started with some really strong cramping and discomfort which lead to me collapsing on the way back from the toilet. Ended up tapering off with discomfort and bloating taking a few days to settle down again.Pain was fairly general but I did have some localised lower back (kidney maybe) and the Dr was worried about appendix stuff, but bloods just showed some inflammation.

Also does anyone how to get a blood serology test for covid antibodies? Presume I can talk to my Dr about requesting one? Would be good to get more certainty about whether I did have a covid reinfection recently or not. I did test daily but not particularly rigorously when I was sick with covidish symptoms, and we did have a positive case in our household, but I never tested positive myself.

@slack You can talk to your doctor. but also keep in mind the RAT test is calibrated for a strong enough infection to be infectious to others. So if your immune system is doing a good job fighting it then you might not test positive no matter how many RATs you do.

Particularly concerning reading in the news of this study of the seriousness of COVID reinfections seeing 10% people having gastrointestinal issues among a raft of other serious impacts.https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-022-02051-3And so many people here seem unconcerned that we're getting another wave here...

@slack Aroha mai to hear that, just as well they checked. From what I've seen in published studies, in some sufferers it's been found to live on live in the gut for over a year! My daughter still has horrendous health issues after nearly dying of Covid, which include crippling gut pain, but her useless doctors refuse to even investigate. They won't even do bloods, just keep saying she must have caught another virus, as if Long Covid is not even a thing. Hope things improve for you soon.

@CentralAndWesternArchiveGLAM Sorry to hear about your issues too. If there's one good thing to come out of so many people catching and being affected by covid it's that there's a lot of data and studies happening so I think we just have to hope and expect that the talented folks doing that work will be able to figure things out to help more in the future. Until then I expect that our doctors will continue to be overworked and frustrated in their own ways about what's happening as well.

@CentralAndWesternArchiveGLAM I did actually get a blood/urine test after my first round of covid after I had some kidney complaints, so perhaps they can do some comparison now at least. My Dr doesn't seem averse to testing at least, but I know they can definitely seem a bit uncaring at times. I hope you can get some support for your daughter.

@slack Kia ora. It's been tough from the start with her idiot (literally) doctors centre even refusing to give her pharmacist and healthline assessed anti-virals when she qualified, we nearly lost her... Complaints in process from that debacle, but they seem to have learned nothing & still fob her off... wont even check her out, told her it can't be Covid as it was weeks ago. So sounds like second complaint coming up. I won't give up. Good luck to you, kia kaha.

@CentralAndWesternArchiveGLAM That sounds like some horrendous incompetence on the part of the doctors. Have you considered moving to a different GP?@slack

@slack> Has anyone else had issues with abdominal pain weeks after having Covid?Maybe, but by digestion gets knocked around by all sorts of things, so it can be really hard to narrow it down to specific causes with any certainty :/
