Seeing the term generative art become conflated more with garbage NFT stuff rather than livecoding or similar things fills me with a similar rage I assume cryptography people felt when "crypto" became cryptocurrency

@protodrew NFT opinions aside, the people who believe this weren't likely to be into the other stuff in the first place so no real loss, right? you cant control what people think

@pee_zombie im not talking about global public opinion or whatever, it has become the dominant discussion point in online platforms or other places where someone interested in learning generative art would be likely to look. It hurts people who want to be into a topic because they only see it reflected in the form of cynical autogenerated picrew cashgrab nonsense

@protodrew hm this hasn't been my experience, the generative art spaces i'm in are not primarily NFT art by any means, suspect its a filter bubble thing. i also contest that newbies seeing pfpNFT projects would discourage them? yeah most of them are derivative and unoriginal but that's far from being a. a new thing b. a crime
