What would you like to hear? What #economic #explainer would help you better understand the world? Do let me know any thoughts!Feel free to share#econodon #econtwitter #econ https://shows.acast.com/the-irish-economics-podcast

@niallfarrell have you interviewed Kate Raworth? If not, consider, and if you have, do share as link. !#doughnuteconomics https://www.kateraworth.com/doughnut/ she's the only economics I'm keen to hear more from at this time #ClimateChange

@athenamedia @niallfarrell I heard of _Doughnut Economics_ and Kate Raworth through _Enough is Enough_ by Dan O'Neil and Rob Dietz.[1] and all of them through _Marx and the Anthropocene_ by Kohei Saito.[2] A mastodon post alerted me to Saito's surpise Japanese hit a month before the planned English translation. These books are too good to finish. You end up reading other stuff, checking data visualizations..[3][1] https://ourworld.unu.edu/jp/enough-is-enough[2] https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/09/a-new-way-of-life-the-marxist-post-capitalist-green-manifesto-captivating-japan[3] https://goodlife.leeds.ac.uk/national-snapshots/challenge/

@bsmall2 @niallfarrell thanks - yes I read Raworth and then went back and read Donella Meadows work ( Limits to Growth, and Thinking in Systems) and it brings you into a very different mindset on transformative change - particularly in climate change - and how look at system structures is core rather than tinkering at the edges. Thanks for those directions. Interested to hear more from Japan! Was just talking to @Hans_Zomer about Japan and culture.

@athenamedia @niallfarrell @Hans_Zomer I noticed Donella Meadows's name for the first time in Kate Raworth's book. Why isn't she in Capra's _Systems View of Life_? Why didn't I notice her name in @strypey 's posts? I just gave a Japanese _Doughnut Economics_ to an energy activist during our trip to the Sendai Nuke plant last weekend. We petitioned KyuDen not to extend the nuke's 40 year run for another 20 years. This weekend I'll be in Toroku learning about As pollution.https://mstdn.jp/tags/DonellaMeadows

@bsmall2> Why didn't I notice her name in strypey 's posts?I first came across Donella Meadows when I was researching for a conference paper in 2010. If memory serves, I've posted about her a few times here, including that string of quote posts. But it's easy to miss stuff as it spurts past from the firehose ;)@athenamedia @niallfarrell @Hans_Zomer
