@niallfarrell have you interviewed Kate Raworth? If not, consider, and if you have, do share as link. !#doughnuteconomics https://www.kateraworth.com/doughnut/ she's the only economics I'm keen to hear more from at this time #ClimateChange

@bsmall2 @niallfarrell thanks - yes I read Raworth and then went back and read Donella Meadows work ( Limits to Growth, and Thinking in Systems) and it brings you into a very different mindset on transformative change - particularly in climate change - and how look at system structures is core rather than tinkering at the edges. Thanks for those directions. Interested to hear more from Japan! Was just talking to @Hans_Zomer about Japan and culture.

In birdland @athenamediaie. Spent time as a journalist, broadcaster, media head, and have been running Athena Media in Dublin since 2004. Currently on a study year completing the Masters MSc in Climate Change media policy and society at DCU. So keen to follow climate, environment, human rights, just transition conversations - and of course media! Loved twitter, hate muskland.

Many of us are new to Mastodon, but can we all agree it is not Twitter? There is no algorithm rewarding clickbait. It is a volunteer moderated community. News journalists/commentators (myself included!) need to use content warnings. There's an adjustment, you're in a different house, read the room. Don't follow people for the sake of it, but because you want their community. Use it differently?. Enjoy.

So here's the thing. Twitter's data servers for everything outside US are here in Ireland. That means Ireland is responsible for their compliance with EU regulation and laws. Given there's now no Twitter compliance, security, etc etc executives ....and that the site has been flooded with verified fake profiles. That's one scary wake up for Data protection officer and Ireland inc.

@khoji interesting upbringing - sounds like the Durrells - writers colonies definitely nothing new - but probably a bit different from an anglo colonial power base in India - or Dutch in Indonesia. In a Neo liberal political economy money is the colonising power - so again its a logical move for these families to use their wealth to move countries - question is whether EU countries should be offering tax incentives ie 'golden visas'?
