Regarding journal.host, there's something that gets under my skin, can't fully put my finger on it. The idea that within a decentralized system someone would create a centralized, gatekept hub that is only for 'real' journalists, whatever that means (paid by corporate owners, maybe?). Anyone they deem is not a 'real' is turned away. I'm not saying they're doing a good or bad job of it, I really have no idea what's going on there, just commenting on the philosophy behind it. It seems... icky.

@revolucianaI see a lot of these issues as transitory and my higher priority is maximizing the value of the fedi for everyone. However they get here and can drag others along too, awesome.

@wjmaggos @revolucianaI wonder if the limit is to help limit total users on that instance to more manageable levels for moderation and server management. Journalists tend to produce a lot of content, and the responsibility of managing it likewise will be high. I do hope bigger media companies will make their own instances for all their employed journalists. That will help spread the moderation out better.

@wjmaggos Well, I thought that decentralization was the value, but I totally hear you. Not attempting to police anyone, just remark more in the realm of on a serious issue with the way corporate backed journalists view themselves.

@revolucianayep, hopefully the outlets start running their own instances. but if this is where they feel comfortable starting out and want to maintain their elitism, at least they're here?!
