#ranger spawned a shell script that took up 2GB of RAM in the background, even when it (ranger) wasn't running.NOT WANT.

@RL_Dane file managers are bloat :p I just use vifm, works well, and isn't as confusing as ranger.

@sotolf If file manangers are bloat, and vifm is a file manager, does that mean you are a featherless biped?

@RL_Dane @sotolf vifm looks nice, but you could use trash/rm/cp/mv/ls/cd like me. :)

@sotolf @benjaminhollon I know I was hating on it a little before, but nnn makes renaming a lot of files super easy, because it basically just opens vi with a list of files in the current directory, and whatever you edit in that file gets changes in the actual directory when you exit. Also, a file manager is mostly useful for my work. I don't use it for personal stuff, as there's no real need for it.

@RL_Dane @benjaminhollon I just use vifm for these kinds of things, it's way more similar to vim, and I don't have to have that weird ribbon view of my files, but have two panes, bookmarks, lots of shortcuts from vim, it does everything the others do and more, and it does great with folder names, has a configuration file and everything, and it's written in c as well ;) see it can do configuration files :p

@benjaminhollon @fu @sotolf Crank hypothesis: #GNU #Hurd never got finished because it was merely a front project to disguise the fact that EMACS *IS* THE OS. It doesn't matter if it's running atop #Linux, #MacOS, #Windows, #Haiku, or #ContikiOS #Emacs is all, and all is Emacs.#humor #editors #RSI #CarpalTunnel #WristBraces

@RL_Dane @benjaminhollon @fu @sotolf Speaking of Emacs, โ๏ธnobody yet mentioned how its file browser "dired" allows to mass rename files, too, via "wdired-mode"; which also works for recursing directory trees, matching file names by pattern, making nnn+vim obsolete*ducks*
