I'm really liking the feeling of Mastodon, reminiscent on the heady, healthy, inspiring and anarchic early days of the internet - pre-troll, pre-algorhithm, yet a little more grown up, less naive. Please let's not fuck it up this time#mastodon #confidence

Welcome to the fediverse @mr_sterile !>reminiscent on the heady, healthy, inspiring and anarchic early days of the internetIt's like everything Indymedia could have been if we'd had the technology of Star Trek TNG :) Did you know @jfa is here too?

I'm particularly excited by the potential of #Mobilizon to be the fediverse replacement for FarceBook events. Any activist group, music venue, community centre etc can have an events calendar on the instance of their choice (or host their own). People only need an account on one instance to follow event feeds from any. You can even follow Mobilizon event feeds and RSVP to event posts with a Mastodon account! @jfa @mr_sterile @strypey Very much agree! Do you know if Gancia events are compatible with Mobilizon events?

@jfa @strypey @mr_sterile oi found it hard to search instances, I wondered whether there were climate events in Australia being collected into a Mobilizion instance but I couldn’t work out

Hello you good humans. I agree strypy, I get a real excited sense of familiarity with the potential here, and even more exciting that there seems to be a second opportunity to get thing better. It's brilliant the tech innovations and iterating continued to develop. And hey @jfa.. Nice to be in your company again@strypey @jfa

@strypey @mr_sterile @jfa I'm in the middle of launching a mastodon instance on kubernetes. Has anyone launched a mobilizon instance on kubernetes? Are there instructions?

Kia ora @mobilizon team, thanks for boosting my post promoting your project :) There have been a number of questions asked in replies to that post, about using and hosting Mobilizon, that I'm not sure I know the answers to. Could you maybe see if you can answer those?@mr_sterile @jfa

@sef Not sure, but I think all the federated events projects using ActivityPub are aiming for that. Maybe give it a test and send feedback to the developers of both about what worked and what could have been better?

@stewsmith It's a much younger project than Mastadon, so there's not that many instances yet, and still a lot of work to do on the user experience. Where were you trying to search?

I hope to see things like a global instance just for climate activism, with events from groups anywhere in the world, regardless of which instance they're listed on. Portals like that will make finding local events much easier.

@bohwaz Good question ;) Not something I've tried. I can definitely see use cases for that though. Eg a gig guide instance for a town, where each venue has its own event feed.

@strypey yes I would like to see something like that myself, but I would also love to have a local one for my area, Fremantle/Perth, that was able to draw in all of the different actions being organised by all kinds of groups and compile it into some sort of calendar and notification system so that if you had the app you would be alerted that this Saturday there was a march for refugees in the city, or Thursday night there is a protest against Woodside, etc

@stewsmithThis is technically possible. It's a question of how to structure it. Do all these local groups get on well enough to share a single local instance? If not, do they need one each, or a handful that each hosts a cluster of groups who do get on, with a neutral instance that follows them all and compiles a general calendar? It's a matter of talking to local activists with tech skills and the groups whose events you want to include, and nutting out 'invisible structures' that can work.
