For some time now I've been concerned about the large, mature trees surrounding the house. I've even had a few of the trees come down in big storms. One tree came down and flattened my garage. It also narrowly missed my van, and the house. My luck cannot hold out forever.I don't want to remove the trees entirely. So, I'm planning to lop and top the trees. I've waited till now because the trees have lost their leaves, and recovered the energy.>>>#DIY #trees

@fitheach most near my house (mostly surrounding my neighbours) are subject to protection orders. Causing quite the complications.

I don't have any experience of arborist tree climbing, so, I'm going to do the work with a cherry picker. I've hired a fairly large (20m) cherry picker, which will arrive next Monday. As there are a lot of trees to be tackled I have hired the CP for a week.I'll update this thread as the work progresses.[PLACEMARKER FOR PHOTO]#DIY #trees

@fitheach I have a fairly big tree at end of my garden that I look at with fear sometimes. What would it cost to get it seen to with professionals? It's a scary thing if it goes wrong.

@fitheach Sounds like you going to have fun!Get as high as possible so you can take branches down in smaller, easier to control, pieces.Best use a decent hand saw to go through stuff as thick as you can manage/be bothered (you have a spare hand to keep hold of and control the bit you are cutting off) rather than a chainsaw.

@dazinism It will be a chainsaw (my trust Stihl). The stuff is waay too big, and too much, for hand cutting.

Photo of the Genie Z-62 cherry picker. It will be arriving on Monday. I'm sure glad not to be going up in a cherry picker in to-day's high winds. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will be favourable next week.[Yes, this does mean I can upload images again. :ablobcheer: ]#DIY #trees

@fitheach Do you need particular training to rent something like that? How much will it cost for the week? I imagine delivery and pickup are a significant part of it, i.e., 5 days is much less than 5 x 1 day.
