There's an article going around about the 'Home invasion' of the fediverse, which is being widely shared.But... it's not an invasion... this is a place that is intended for people to find, join, and participate in.Not everyone who has been here prior to November is mourning the loss of something. Many of us think we have gained a great deal, rather than lost a lot, in the past couple of weeks.

@dctrud I was thinking about this last nightIt appears some people have it in their heads that their Fediverse account is their home, so it kinda works like this:- if they follow you, they invited you into their home. if you post something they deem unsavory, you're broken their house rules. and now they're very offended. :colbert: - if they follow you and you boost a friend's post they do not like, you have brought your friend into their home unannounced and broken their house rules. now they're pissed. :nono: - if someone on the same server as them follows someone they do not like, they will hang their head out their window and shout like a crazy person for bringing such filth into the neighborhood. :bahgawd: :getout: :gary:

For me, there's so much more cool art to see now, lots of local #cornish people to stumble upon and interact with, dance music fans.... and the tech stuff is still here in abundance of course. It's a bit noisy lately... but much of that noise is the relentless posting and re-posting of tips, advice, best practices / rules. They can be easily filtered, and then you'll see more newcomers posting their own interesting stuff, less general noise.

@dctrud I'm hoping things settle down after a few weeks, because so far as I'm concerned, the SDF instance at least is practically unusable right now. Despite new server resources, it's utterly flooded under the weight of new users all posting "how does this work?", links without comment, and what seem to be their CVs or LinkedIn profiles.

@publius yeah. I’d argue that’s a somewhat local issue, rather than a global thing, though. Take a look at e.g. toot.wales for a place with also huge influx but a super good vibe happening.Being on a self hosted instance, I watch some other local timelines in my app, and SDF is definitely one of the more chaotic now.

@dctrud I think maybe SDF's admins got a little overambitious, hoping that giving people a landing place would help raise awareness of SDF itself.
