Sun monitor to complete the set of real Sun peripherals for the Blade 100 arrived today. New old stock is fun. Unopened 4:3 monitor manufactured Feb 2009, and it was only about £40.

There we go, not quite the same period or Color match for the monitor, but all the right logos. It is also getting more evenly backlit than the photo, as it warmed up. Heh.

Pretty sure I'm now even more settled into the opinion that Windows 2000 was the peak of computer interfaces... and I'd just like to keep using something that looks like that until I depart the earth.

After quite a wait, my website and #gemini capsule, of no real consequence, are back on a Sun UltraSparc...It now hums away quietly in the office running #openbsd, and serves up very little, to almost nobody again.... But, from the UK this time, after a 4,700 mile trip!'tis fun to fiddle with this stuff.https://dctrud.randomroad.netgemini://gemini.randomroad.net

If too many people click the link, or bots fetch it, you might find it doesn't work for a bit...The machine is sitting behind a pagekite.net 'kite' to expose it to the internet until we get our own place with internet more amenable to hosting directly. There's DDOS protection with very low limits. Connections from 15 hosts max per 300 second period.

Well… unexpected perils of self-hosting…. website offline due to leaks (3!) in roof of rented shared office space dripping onto things. Computers hastily moved out the way!

Let’s raid my parents pile of 45’s instead of opening up my boxes of dance music. It’s an 80s pop morning. #vinyl

Also in the cupboard… some 70s German pop, and 1954 Mantovani and his Orchestra.

Youngest has it again… the other three of us have never tested positive (despite many tests), but we’ll see if we get it now 😕 can’t really believe the NHS website won’t let you report results from non-NHS test kits. They aren’t even giving those out now, right? Ughh. Government trying to pretend it just doesn’t exist.

Even my little two user instance is seeing over double the normal federation activity now. Not quite reaching that time I shared a picture of a cat, and a pipe, though…

That pipe cat (Digby) is still living in Texas, as he wouldn't have travelled well. Luckily for us (and him), our nextdoor neighbors wanted to keep him... so he got to stay in the same neighborhood. Our other cat, Peat, made the trip from Dallas to Cornwall, via Houston, Frankfurt, and Edinburgh (!) and is curled up next to me now 🙂

There's an article going around about the 'Home invasion' of the fediverse, which is being widely shared.But... it's not an invasion... this is a place that is intended for people to find, join, and participate in.Not everyone who has been here prior to November is mourning the loss of something. Many of us think we have gained a great deal, rather than lost a lot, in the past couple of weeks.

For me, there's so much more cool art to see now, lots of local #cornish people to stumble upon and interact with, dance music fans.... and the tech stuff is still here in abundance of course. It's a bit noisy lately... but much of that noise is the relentless posting and re-posting of tips, advice, best practices / rules. They can be easily filtered, and then you'll see more newcomers posting their own interesting stuff, less general noise.

@publius yeah. I’d argue that’s a somewhat local issue, rather than a global thing, though. Take a look at e.g. toot.wales for a place with also huge influx but a super good vibe happening.Being on a self hosted instance, I watch some other local timelines in my app, and SDF is definitely one of the more chaotic now.
