       If #Mastodon is going to scale it is going to need something like #IPFS to reduce duplication of data across instances. Right now you get a potential  2 to the nth data usage  if the social graph get's more  interconnected. This is unsustainable and unnecessary. Also will consume more energy.

       @matt Well, we're probably far off from that still. Mastodon doesn't have the same exponential growth of energy. There is no reward for using more energy like with #bitcoin. IPFS and Filecoin is nice because it will deduplicate data.
