       In the last four days, I've learned more about how subtle (or not so subtle) design and culture differences in social media can lead to wildly different experiences. I continue to be overwhelmed by how good the choices are here on Mastodon and how lousy the ones I didn't notice were over on the birdsite.

       @Narfinger The federation--people get to have more individual/group control over what they see and who they interact with. The lack of QT--which is a much bigger thing than I realized. CW: to also control the experience better. The general thoughtful (if sometimes heated) discussion about what kinds of discussions people want to have on here.

       @adamdavidson The magic of a world without jannies.It's quite lovely.  I can't get banned here for calling a man in a dress a man instead of a pretty lady, or for invective against non-Whites, etc.Objective Truth can be pursued forthwith.  Needless to say, we wouldn't agree on much of anything, I fear.
