       @drahardja in a nutshell: consent. people don’t want random people searching things and jumping into their conversations unless that’s something they’ve opted-in to. and namesearching tends to bring out the annoying sort of reply guys

       @shadowfacts What about *subject* searching? I’d like to be able to find something I read on the Fediverse three years ago about some obscure topic, or remember who it was who posted a funny anecdote.I get that we want to protect people from getting brigaded, but the general utility of topical search is also important.

       @drahardja Yeah, that I don't have a good answer for. I think finding anything I previously saw, regardless of where on the internet, is an unsolved problem.Search might help with that, but I still feel the poster's preference is more important than the searcher's
