I am setting myself a (fun, not overly serious) challenge for tomorrow: posting in the fediverse without talking about the fediverse / Mastodon etc.i.e. using it for more than just talking about itself!

@neil bit like a Bechdel test for social networks? If two users talk to each other about something other than the network they are talking on, then it passes the test?

@emmatonkin @neil This concept can be extended to almost anything. 3D printers, for instance, won't pass the test until owners use them mainly for something other than making spare parts for said printers.

@mansr @neil If I had to summarise what I mainly use my 3D printer for, I'd have to say a) printing little plastic doodads to replace broken bits of plastic, like battery doors or thumbstick covers and b) making accidental plastic spaghetti out of poorly-printed little replacement doodads :)
