I confess I'm not clear how to operate here if literally every mention of politics requires a content warning. This is an existing community with its own mores which I totally respect. So I want to be clear I'm not saying there's a problem with that or that it should change. But hard to know precisely how to operate in that mode if that's a lot of what you talk about.

@joshtpm Yeah, I'm just not going to do that. If someone doesn't like what I talk about, they can just not follow me and if they really don't like it they can block me.I'm not going to treat vanilla political discussion as akin to porn or gore. It isn't.

@rwa @joshtpm I hope this helps clarify the situation.Follow the norms of your instance. If CW/Headers are your community's rules, use them. If not, don't.Likewise, I will follow the norms of my instance. I am happy, even excited, to follow you and make comments. But if your post doesn't follow the guidelines of my instance, I will not boost it.

@joshtpm I just get in the habit of putting "uspol" in the CW line of a lot of posts. It's basically like a subject header or category indicator.

@bstacey @joshtpm Yeah, I have settings so I don't even need to click on your CWs.

@joshtpm there’s also a big and growing community on Mastodon that wants to follow current events and doesn’t care about content warnings for news.

@peter @joshtpm Yeah I think mores are different based on who you follow, who follows you, and what instance you're on.On any other instance I would use uspol, gapol or similar, especially since one of my admins asked me to. But with account I wouldn't bother. If you follow an account from an explicitly political instance, you know what you're getting into.

@joshtpm Does it work better if you think of the content warning as a headline, and a click through to the body?

@steve @joshtpm I don't even have to click, due to my settings.Others will differ on how they like to interact with these things, which is cool. Nice to have the setting.
