Yeah sex is great but have you watched #TheExpanse ??? Ok sésatas and beratnas, where are my Belters, where are my Dusters? I want to chat about #TheExpanse and how damn great this entire universe of storytelling is.I watched the show first, when it still aired on SyFy (don't ask me how), and got into the books later. Love the hard #scifi approach it takes, that never gets too technical, but is always firmly grounded in the social-material realities of a future society.

@jynersolives I read the books first (except for 8 and 9) and was 100% prepared for the show to be a complete letdown by comparison. It might be the only time in recent memory where I was happily proven wrong. The hard scifi (especially space travel mechanics), the humor (or: literally everything Amos and Avasarala say), the world-building, the politics, ALL of it is so damn engaging. I NEED TO WATCH IT AGAIN NOW

@killyourfm I love that the tech/science aspect never gets in the way of storytelling but is used to tell the story. The low/0-g stuff (the blood!) is so damn good, especially in s3 when they need to spin up the Drum. Loved that. I was also longing for scifi that looks at social, cultural and political aspects, something that is too often overlooked in mainstream stuff. #TheExpanse scratched all the right itches for me.Final three books are 🤯

@jynersolives Damn, I never thought bout the WAY most of the hard scifi stuff was conveyed. Visually! Without relying on needless exposition.

@killyourfm What I like about this show is that it assumes the audience is intelligent enough to figure it out themselves.

@jynersolives I've watched two seasons of the show and then dropped it for some reason. Years later, when I've forgotten almost everything about the plot. I've read the first book and now I'm hooked up again. I'm definitely planning on reading the following volumes.

@tearvisus You should also watch s3, it's a banger that gets weirder and weirder. s5 might be my favorite, everything clicks in there. With the books, gosh the final three are creating such a universe, it's fantastic. Would love more other stories in that world.

@jynersolives @tearvisus Is there a remote chance the authors will license the rights to the IP for additional novels from other authors? that question was messy, but you know what I'm saying right?

@killyourfm @tearvisus I would hope so! There's 30yrs of narrative room between 6 and 7, a whole bunch of stories to tell in a familiar setting. Let's have a story on Earth post-Asteroid strikes, how this shakes up Earth society and maybe let's have the role between the Belt and Earth reversed. Let's have a story exploring the vast new worlds beyond the Gates. And on and on.And if you want to go really wild, just continue after 9 and make a frakkin space opera ME style.

@jynersolives @tearvisus Yea, ANY of those ring gate worlds holds the potential for really engrossing stories, even if it's just loosely linked to the existing universe.

@killyourfm @tearvisus You could have stories in between the end of 9 and the epilogue, what happens in these millennium or so. The possibilities are so damn endless and the world is so interesting.

@jynersolives @tearvisus OK, this has compelled me to finally read the book that inspired The Expanse. (Seriously, proof attached!)

@killyourfm @jynersolives @tearvisus Frederick Pohl's HeeChee saga series (Specifically Gateway) was also an influence on #theexpanse too. I read several of Pohl's novels and short stories because of this tweet, and I didn't regret it.

@killyourfm Space Merchants by Pohl reads like Sci-fi Mad Men in Space. It's an entertaining read, but not much like #theexpanse.According to Goodreads, not many people have read Pohl's Ominibus of short stories recently, but several stories in the collection were good especially considering how early they were written.
