       Hi, new friends who migrated from birdsite! Today, I’d like to emphasize how important content warnings, or “CWs”, are. In context, today the US is having an important election, and a lot of people are understandably very stressed out about it. Please, *please*, use the CW feature to label any political messages with “uspol”, which is kind of the Mastodon convention for “US politics”. This helps people who want to think about something different for a little while.

       @keifer I’ve seen “pol” used a lot for general stuff. I don’t see enough non-US politics in my timelines to know what other countries have adopted.

       @tek in my defense I was very explicitly not trying to be partisan but I totally get why the election in general could mess with MH. Will be more cognizant in future.

       @rcarback Totally understood! But I use it even for innocuous stuff like “go vote!”. Lots of people have “uspol” in their filters today so that they can hide it altogether for the moment.Now, I have thoughts on whether that’s a good idea, but I do get people who think “I just want a break from my anxiety about this for a few hours”.
