Outside of advocacy for the fedi, almost everything I post is about US politics. I'm trying to push for better discourse and I don't think putting all my posts behind a CW helps with that. Or imagine if this became the norm for the main subject you want to read about here.Twitter was different before mass adoption too.

@wjmaggos I agree. People will get over the #InternetDrama over politics topics.Use that mute button. Filter out what is irrelevant to you for whatever reason. It is your freedom, but freedom comes with #responsibility.

@wjmaggos There was recently a poll discussing norms for CWs. I said that norm should be to expect CWs for people who publish #uspol once in a while; but if a feed is 90% uspol , then the people who signed up for it know what they're getting into.I do think it would be reasonable for you to include the #uspol hashtag however, so your followers can easily block such posts, if they only want your other writing.(Instances are free to set their own policies about this sort of thing of course.)

@wjmaggosI suspect you manage to decide which news articles to click on based on a few words every day. This isn't that different. Folks who aren't into #CWs themselves can choose to auto-expand them. Anyone who hasn't done that, a month into using Mastodon probably wants them. What if you imagine it as an opportunity instead of a hurdle?
