Now that new folks have had a chance to settle into Mastodon......I want to show y'all a really cool thing. @gn16 @tinker everybody on the fediverse has something on their account called a handle.My Pixelfed is deadsuperhero@pixelfed.social. You can copy and paste that into your search bar on Mastodon, and it should pull in my profile as a result.If that's giving you trouble, you can try clicking on the mention: @deadsuperhero You can also import a remote post by copying and pasting a URL to a post in your search field. Only if you want to log into Pixelfed. However, you can follow Pixelfed accounts from mastodon and interact with their stuff with just a Mastodon account.

@tinker @sean @TomasHelleberg I’m seriously considering pitching this for ART19 (the podcast hosting platform I built), because it would be relatively simple to do so that e.g. https://art19.com/shows/the-madecast could for example be natively viewed and shared in Mastodon/etc.

@tinker @sean pretty cool that just yesterday i put a simmilar post in a slack team I am part of. While I am.new to mastodon and Fediverse I have been working on building federated architectures for.a while.What is not clear is that if I can have a single identity and logon across all Fediverse apps. Kinda like OAuth. Or do I need separate accounts across.the Fediverse?

So, the answer is a little murky. In most cases, you can follow people on another platform, and they can follow you. For example, Pixelfed people can follow Mastodon folks and their photos will end up looking like a regular Pixelfed gallery. For example, here’s how my microblogging profile looks from the perspective of Pixelfed: https://pixelfed.social/i/web/profile/4738Now, if you want to reap the benefits of using that platform’s specific UI, you will have to create an account over there. Some platforms, like PeerTube, are the only ones capable of posting statuses that look a certain way, because their platform was specifically designed around it. That being said, I’m envisioning a future where this line starts to get blurred.

@sean @tinker @TomasHelleberg I notice that Castopod embeds media using <a href /> rather than attachments or the Audio object type. I’m not sure why, and I’m assuming it’s oEmbed but didn’t look into it. Any chance someone in this thread knows? :D
