I’m wondering about delisting https://ruby.social from the list on https://joinmastodon.org and going back to word-of-mouth/personal recommendations to more slowly grow this instance. There’s been a big increase in the number of new folk asking to join today who just want to “see what Mastodon is” or “share information on gut health”

@james I think add verification code to filter rubyist is a good idea, such as answering some Ruby code’s result. That will be interesting.

I don't know, I feel like it's not beginner friendly. What about putting a piece of complicated code saying something like "hey, here we talk about this". Anyways whatever you think is best I will support it

@james IMHO it's a practical solution to temporarily fix some symptoms. 👍🏻But most likely the root cause isn't the instance discoverability.The signup flow could may be improved by making even more clear the purpose of the instance?

@lucian @james I think the problem is the too much visibility on joinmastodon.org (we are the 1st instance suggested) 🤪 Sharing of this instance in a newsletter for rubyists is really good for us 💪 No shame with it
