This transition from Twitter reminds of September on Usenet. The time of year when all the freshmen in the US discover Usenet and need to be trained on acceptable behaviour. Let’s hope it works out.

@strypey Yes, I do worry about that somewhat, but I think the fediverse has benefited from that experience, and so far the people coming over from the commerce-verse are grokking it much better than those AOL people did back then.

@HappyRumbletumIndeed. A lot of my welcoming energy has been spent on making sure folks understand the moderation tools they have at their disposal. Also the way instances can act to protect the people using them from spam and harassment, which isn't possible on centralized platforms like Titter.

This isn't possible on centralized platforms like Titter, and a lot of internet 1.0 software lacked such tools, because it hadn't needed them until Eternal September began.
