Dear potato chip companies, I'm a longtime fan of the humble potato in all its myriad forms, and I particularly love the crunch of a good crisp. But sadly, like anyone else who's dairy-free or trying to reduce the excess sugars in our diet, I can't eat most of the flavours you sell. That's because the flavourings contain dairy products and/or added sugar (sometimes as much as 2% of the final product). Nobody buys a packet of chips to eat more dairy or sugar. Maybe leave them out? #SugarFree

@strypey ughhhh...I need to read the packet. No wonder I've had tummy upset after eating them. I thought it was just me and potatoes thing.

@mooniepopsIs it the dairy or the sugar for you (or both, like me)?

@alienghicAe, we get those here. Every brand here has a salt-only variety. Currently those are the only ones I can eat, with extremely rare exceptions. Do you know of any other Kettle flavours that are dairy free?

@strypey Dairy mainly. But less sugar wouldn't hurt.

@mooniepopsIt's amazing what has dairy in that you'd never expect (same with sugar). I became an obsessive ingredient reader in my transition from vegetarian to vegan.

@strypey this makes sense! Usually I do. But the low key unassuming chippies! Who would've thought?

@strypey I have had the same issue being diabetic. We found a brand, possibly, kettle, that sells salt free chips in the local paknsave. If I come across it again, will share a shot. May try it if you haven't already.

@mooniepopsNever underestimate the range of places the corporate food industry can hide surplus dairy and sugar production ;) Same with corn and soy, but at least we can eat stuff with those in...

@mooniepops @strypey Does the vinegar made from dairy affect you? Luckily some brands have a 'proper' cider vinegar.

@thomasbeagleGood question. That's the white vinegar, right? I've never noticed it but I tend to avoid it in favour of cider, malt, or balsamic, unless I'm using it for cleaning ;)@mooniepops

@strypey @mooniepops Yep, white vinegar tends to be made from what's cheap and available, so in NZ they make it from a dairy by-product.

@strypey Indeed! Those flavourings are often a vehicle for delivering gluten as well - though there are an increasing number of GF chips and chip adjacent products which is nice. #coeliac

@alienghicHehe. Seriously though, I'll look for the rosemary option. Thanks for the tip :)
