       Mastodon habits I'm trying to lock in, rather than revert to my Twitter habits:1) use CWs liberally2) when threading, set first post to "public" and the rest to "not listed"3) don't forget the description text when posting images (had to work on that in Twitter too)4) throw in hashtags like it was Tumblr or Instagram when you want to reach beyond your followers5) pin and visit hashtags to find more people6) boost a lot

       @pbinkley@code4lib.social so it's a question basically of how posts get from a to b, when a post is repeated, that post is delivered into a remote user's inbox (and therefore timeline) as an individual post. the remote instance software can see what it's a reply to (and so it can retrieve the posts in the thread upwards), but it can't do it downwards. sometimes it'll end up aware of posts downward in the thread  and can piece them together, but you don't have that guarantee

       @evelyn @pbinkley@code4lib.social servers can always move upwards, but they aren't guaranteed to know about all the posts to move downwards
