       @cwebber  This is the advantage with OSS.  People can re write the code for say Mastodon,  maintain the activity pub element, and remain  part of the fediverse just with their own UI.

       @zleap @cwebber That view (“people can write code…”) is overly glib. Of the humans on the planet who might USE mastodon, it is a tiny fraction who have the skill and availability to do anything with it. We who can must centre the needs of those who can’t. Otherwise those needs won’t be represented in the code.
