Had lunch with my MIL yesterday. She asked if I had gotten the vax yet. And, I said no that I'd had COVID and wouldn't be getting it. She looks at my husband and says "you're up to date." He said, I had three. She said, "Well then you're unvaxxed too." Then she says she won't be able to see us again because we are too dangerous to her health. Pre Covid, she saw my daughter once a month. Since Covid, less than 5 times total. Their relationship is damaged. #noforgiveness

My husband also pointed out that we would never get our daughter vaccinated so, even if we got vaccinated, nothing changes. In the car, my 10yo says "doesn't she know the vaccine doesn't prevent transmission. It possibly makes you less sick." My husband says some people don't want to hear that. Unfortunately, your grandmother is one of them. We are her only family. So, she'll spend Thanksgiving and Christmas alone.

@anneofgrayrock My 89 year old mother said in June of 2020, "I refuse to live in fear. And I refuse to allow fear to keep me from seeing my grandchildren." My wife's mom did the exact opposite. Today, I took my daughter and my mom to a special Grandprarents Mass at my daughter's catholic high school. My MIL was not invited. Sad, but when you let fear rule you, it creates chasms that cannot be healed.

That's what my parents said in Spring of 2020. They were adament about spending the holidays with their family. They are healthier than most of their friends now because they exposed themselves to germs. My parents aren't vaxxed. My Mom has lost friends and been shunned over this issue. The hardest one is her best friend who stopped talking to her. It took Mom 2 yrs to stop reaching out. This experience taught me one thing, fear is the most powerful emotion. Courage is in short supply.
