On-boarding experience is such an obstacle on mastodon. It’s a shame really. The platform seems to work remarkably well once you’re in.I think people can understand performance issues due to the sudden influx of interest. But the weird technical language. The “unclear” trust model. The overwhelming choices you have to make upfront. That will stop lots of people. 😕

@f_beaudet @scottjenson Any idea how to make it easier? Most people tend to go directly to the flagship server anyway. But then we are back to the centralized model which led to this migration in the first place.

@ondra @f_beaudet I've discussed this in previous posts:1) At the signup page have a clear pick a server option (this exists on some now)2) Have a strong guideline how how servers present themselves: how they are funded. managed, goals, moderation so you can determine if the server is well run3) Have a suggested 3-5 servers for people that don't want to think (LOTS to talk about here, I get it, this would be hard)
