@entreprecariat 1/2I have been spending a somewhat unhealthy amount of time checking some of these twitter threads on mastodon. One of my biggest takeways is: the difficulty that some of the folks making those comments have in:- Not judging mastodon by using the references that they know from centralized networks (twitter et al) - Grasping the full implications of decentralized. And that it also means no central authority.@rysiek

@entreprecariat Exactly! The bygone era of angelfire, geocities, etc. I was a little too young to really engage in it at a high level but even today I still find myself thinking about webrings 😆

@entreprecariat the federated network that is Mastodon is probably better off without them, TBH.They make it **seem** like they care about those that follow them, when in reality they just want their content to be seen.They could probably care less about the interactions they receive from users, which, de-socializes the social aspect of a social network 🫤

@subidax @entreprecariat be neither, but even if there were geocities vibes, wouldn't that be a good thing? geocities made having a page on the web way more accessible for a lot of people who wouldn't have had a chance of it a few years earlier.(Other than the animated Under Constructions gifs. those were bad. :D )
