Well, OK. If I don't get off my butt and start looking for a job, I'm never going to do it. Gotta get out of that comfort zone.Hi, I'm Seth and I want to find a job I love. Back-end engineer with over 20 years experience, solid abilities in Java, Rust, C, and enough Python to be only somewhat dangerous. Experience with Apache Kafka, InfluxDB, Grafana, several cloud providers, PostgreSQL, the usual suspects. I prefer very small companies over larger companies. Know anyone looking?

Previously employed at Akamai and Nominum, but one of my favorite gigs was when I was on the LOCKSS project at Stanford University, doing an open source digital preservation system. I'd love to find something like that again.

@twylo U of I is a terrific place to work, as a software developer. We became very remote-work friendly in recent years. It is a big organization, but departmental and research development teams tend to be small and operate with a lot of independence. And we like to believe we have started to provide great central support for each campus dev team's cloud tool and compliance needs.https://illinois.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/1/home?c=illinois&sq=DeveloperEnd of shameless plug. I'll get back to following you for retro computer stuff.

@Edthedev Thank you for the link! I will definitely check out the open positions. What kind of nerd would I be if I didn't want to work at the place that spawned the NCSA?

@havoc I’m sorry I missed this reply. I would suggest doing anything you can to promote a portfolio on GitHub, especially contributing to the back end of open source projects. If you’re already employed doing some other kind of development, try to weasel your way more and more into making changes on the back end if you can, you’ll gain experience. And finally, there’s a channel on YouTube by Hussein Nasser with TONS of good info and knowledge about back end development that is very accessible!
