twkn is fucked. it's really fucked. years of not blocking instances has lead to a veritable nightmare just sitting on my front page. trying to invite people to my instance and I just don't want to have it be like this. they don't deserve it.

@phoenix like what? Lolicon?I think you can disable the whole known network as the landing page in the admin panel and have it default to local or about if you're worried about it. Personally I expect the federated timeline to be a mess, there are a lot of different people out there saying all kinds of things, I only really worry about who I follow and who follows me.

@mistermonster there's assholes and then there's racists, transphobes, people who like to quote suicide statistics at me. Very important difference to make. I have no plans to restrict federation. Pleroma's user-side moderation utilities make that somewhat redundant. However, I don't think blocking those instances is a bad thing. People who disagree with their admin's decisions are free to get up and go elsewhere. It's not such a bad thing to remove the lowest of the low, the people who don't interact in good faith. For instance, I think it's fair to clump every user on kiwifarms.cc together in that regard. Those who don't want that association should not be there.But, whatever. It's not like it's a big deal in the first place. We don't have serial harassers coming over here and interacting with us.Sometimes I do feel a bit weird about some of the people you interact with, but it's not my problem. You don't seem like a bad person and I'm sure you realize exactly who you're talking to. And because of that I trust your interactions. Since I haven't received *any* reports since this instance was created, I think that's the right decision.

@phoenix yeah I get it, sometimes I do talk to people that have opinions that you'd be sensitive to and I'm sure you can tell, I try to remain respectful and not be a dick or talk any hateful shit and get into all that kind of dialog. It's all noise and it's a waste of time.I'm a bit of a free speech absolutist type person. I don't agree with a lot of what most people think, but I'm not afraid to talk to them about whatever. I assumed you were the same way, you always struck me as that type, I never got any indication that you disliked any of the interactions I was having. Anyway, if you want I can open an account elsewhere and just keep this as an alt or backup? That way you can make any decisions you want without having to worry about if it will affect me negatively.

@phoenix well, if you want I can move on, nbd, I'm not butthurt about it. If you're trying to make your server more appealing to like minded friends I can see how having some guy here who talks to less tolerant people sometimes would make that difficult for you.

@phoenix not that clear... It seems to me like you want to defederate from certain instances. You're saying you don't, but you want to "clean up" the federated timeline...Which is fine. It's your server. I'm a guest here. I appreciate you hosting me and giving me a public voice. But I do feel like you're avoiding doing something you want to do because I'm here and I don't want to impose on anyone.
