We are no #Twitter. And we do not wanna become the next Twitter..Mastodon has proven that social media can be fun and safe without bullies! Engage in discussions without being harassed. Respect for each other is important here. You don't have to agree with everyone ofc but talking about it is so much better than name-calling for example.I think we can show the world that social media can also be a positive factor in life instead of stress and a dark shadow Love you guys ❤️

@stux Yes, but also on Mastodon and the rest of the fediverse there are dark corners. Keep that in mind folks. Also on Mastodon there are fascists, but they are much better moderated. Main reason is that Twitter etc. financially thrive on conflict, but the non-commercial fediverse not. Also remind that servers can differ how they are moderated. Example: There are explicitly anti-fascist Mastodon servers, but also servers that don't moderate anything.

@stux this is why I fled Twitter yesterday, posts got incredibly nasty.. This one by a congressional representative.With employees, monitors being laid off by Musk, situation can only get worse. I would imagine some huge hack or other security breach.

@stux this is just a wishful thinking.The history of media proves the opposite actually.When a new medium comes to surface is often revolutionary, independent etc.Soon enough the ads are coming, the big corporations, the noise etc.Then some other medium comes up which claims again those virtues mentioned up.And the story keeps the same all the time.Remember how the radio was in the beginning compared to the newspapers. Remember the blogs. Remember Twitter 😭😅.

@stux Exactly. I like to exchange arguments. Maybe learn something from the ones of someone else and maybe someone else learns something of mine. Where it goes wrong is when people feel the urge to convince others. In my family we refrain from that part. So we have good discussions but we can never get into a family row, like heard that families do e.g. about corona.

@stux I think the folks from the multiple Black-run instances that've been driven off the fedi from persistent harassment and racism would disagree heartily with the sunshines and roses attitude here. Don't get me wrong, Twitter is awful, but Mastodon has serious racism and anti-blackness problems.

@stux This is a great perspective and attitude. I have embraced this as well. If we can have civil discussions with reasonable individuals who hold dissenting opinions IRL, surely we can do it under the veil of anonymity. Of course, it requires a degree of self-moderation and a willingness to accept the rules of civil engagement.
