One thing people are concerned about coming over from bigger platforms is the smaller userbase, and what that might mean for their engagement. I'll address that by talking about my own experience here. For my personal art, I have 5k followers on a FB page, 3k on Twitter, and 15k on Insta. I've never sold anything through Twitter or Insta, and FB was so-so.When I joined Masto way back, even with just a fraction of the followers, the engagement was astounding. (cont)

@Curator Really excited to hear that you've been able to find such an enthusiastic following for your work in the fediverse. One could argue that it goes to show how much more meaningful the "discovery" component of social networking is to folks when you place the responsibility for it in their own hands (as opposed to e.g. driving it via analytics).

People come to the fediverse because they're tired of corporations and capitalism. That goes hand in hand with supporting grassroots projects and individuals. People here are *very* eager to support artists and buy art direct from the creators.Even when my personal masto account only had a few hundred followers, the sales I'd make here started outstripping the other three big networks combined. Art I post for sale gets snatched up quickly. Sometimes I'll post something I made quickly (cont)

       - just for fun and not really thinking about 'will it sell', and someone will ask me if they can buy it. When I started learning calligraphy last year, I was posting my progress here, and people started asking if they could commission calligraphy from me even when I was still wobbly and messy.Share your shop links liberally. Post your art for sale, or make it known that it's available. Make sure your payment links - PayPal, Kofi, LiberaPay - are visible in your profile.
