Unlike yesterday there was almost no wind, and certainly no rain. Perfect conditions for giving good reflections in the canal water. The long line of mist clinging to the bottom of the hills gave the whole scene a romantic look.Although there was no wind at ground level, there must have been some higher up, as the conditions often changed very quickly.#Dogwalk #Highlands #Scotland #photo #photography

Oi!Where's the canal gone?Just a few minutes after the previous photo, and the mist had blown down to the level of the canal. It was a real pea-souper.As the sun was also obscured the mist lowered the perceived temperature.it felt like we were all alone, and we mostly were.#Dogwalk #Highlands #Scotland #photo #photography

Then, out of the gloom we heard a noise approaching us. As it neared, and out of the mist, we could see it was a small, red fishing boat. It must've been moving from the west coast to the east. As quickly as the mist arrived (a few minutes), it was gone again. We were back to a gorgeous sunny day. The mist retreated to the hill tops, and never returned to the level of the canal.#Dogwalk #Highlands #Scotland #photo #photography #CanalLife

On the opposite side from the canal there was a huge grassy area where lots of people were playing some kind of game.The object of the game seemed to involve walking around the grassy area looking for balls hidden in small sunken holes. Shamefully, I saw people cheating. They knocked their own balls into the holes, and then in a celebratory display pretended to find a ball in the hole. @gemlog I'd rather people were out playing golf than sitting on their arses watching football (or some other televised sport).I also quite like the concept of the 19th hole.

@fitheach During the past couple of years I go and park my ass at the local rink for local area hockey games a few times a season, but tv nhl is a Very distant memory. They're all just mercenaries like football players - if they aren't 'loyal' to a team, why should I be? I did used to get together with a few friends to watch the final few matches of the euro cup, but not the last couple even.Golf is even less fun to do than it is to watch on telly, b/c the commercials break up the unending tedium slightly at least.

@fitheach @gemlog I'm old enough to remember how our dads and uncles watched World of Sport for hours, in a great cloud of cigarette smoke and all the sports were full of tobacco sponsorship; and if you didn't like sport that much as a teen you'd just go into town (and often have a crafty cigarette whilst away from parents) so the only gain was for Big Tobacco (which by then couldn't get its products as openly advertised on telly)
