@heyarnold @TheQuQu Yep :V SPC in particular was blocked a lot because old ass fediblock lists from the GamerGate or 2017 canceldon era have it on there. Troons won't bother to unblock it because you have to basically bend the knee to them hard to get unblocked (as in adopt their rules and CoC). But I've also been running a single user instance out of my basement on an old machine (not here lol) and I've had weirdness federating with some instances on it. Though it's also on the fringes of "hardware that'll run Pleroma" as logging in takes 10-15 seconds as the CPU jumps to 100 haha.

@heyarnold @TheQuQu I need to write more about shit online, I've written quite a bit elsewhere but not on a website that isn't some WP blog.KF did come back up, but a few weeks ago it seemed like the site was fsckd and well, I think a lot of people don't realize part of why that site is so fucking hard to host is the heat level of it is so high and every single lunatic wants to wipe them off the internet. Parler/Gab were/are the same way, they're centralized and also had a high heat level. I'm glad it did come back up (just as a fuck you to the people trying to take it down since anyone can be in that situation these days), but also it's slower and user activity has dipped a bit. But I feel this should be emphasized as well; the site is very costly to host (thousands a month).

@heyarnold @TheQuQu Honestly going down for even just a week made the situation vastly better for the site even if it wasn't intentional, because suddenly the heat level dropped dramatically after a week since they assumed the site was gone.It's very common when dealing with people like this online that they'll have a very short attention span. They will in fact move on so fast that someone in a chat group I was in had a nickname for this behavior: "yearly cancellations".

@PhenomX6 @heyarnold @TheQuQu Of course going down for a bit will always reduce the heat level, but I think Josh refused to intentionally take the site down due to what happened with 8chan.When 8chan was off the clearnet (not even down, you just needed Tor!) for 3 months, the site lost most of its userbase. In Josh's words, it is now "a shell of its former self."

Even when the site was down, the users were interacting with each other on various fediverse instances (unfortunately mostly poast).When the site was Tor-only, there were still many users on the site. In contrast, 8chan had no community outside of their main site, to the point where I'm guessing that the vast majority of their users weren't aware that there was an onion service (let alone what Tor is or how to use it).

A lot of the threads I frequented that were infected with canceraids became useable again. The people that belive in the community and contributed still came in and did that. The YWNBAW spam was down by 50%.
