If you want to add a reason to use Signal over WhatsApp, here's this:WhatsApp's only (possibly only easy) way to back up and restore chats is through Google Drive. If you don't use Google Drive for whatever reason (Google itself for privacy reasons, chat history with media is too big to upload on a slow or limited connection, not enough space in your Google Drive to hold your backup, and whatever other reason), you're going to have a hard time importing those chats onto a new device. You're going to end up looking at some third-party solution to do it.Signal upon first install now asks if you want to import from a new device, requiring you to have the old device with you, and guides you through the process without having to use anything like Google Drive.

It used to be that you'd have to place the backup file from the old device into the Signal folder on the new device. Signal would then see the file only during setup. It wasn't obvious where you had to put it, but this new way is much more normal-people-friendly.
