I'm so alone... how could I not know anyone around here? I've been here so long. Getting old, and nobody even to cry with about how it's too late and things are never gonna get better. The guy in East Portland... god, what about the person two houses down? Across the street? Down Connell? All those people just carbon clones of nuclear family consumer drones, and I'm too fucked up to even try to find the rare exception trapped in this hell together with me.

@cyI've been seeing your posts, and I'm sorry for how you are feeling. I know the past couple of years has been more isolating for me, and I imagine it only feels worse in a big city like Portland.

@cySomething that really helped me was volunteering. I linked up with a local mutual aid group, and did a few hours, twice a week feeding and clothing hungry/unhoused neighbors. It helped me feel good and useful, and I made friends with a few cool people.

@mikefordays There's no local mutual aid group around here. I tried volunteering for the food bank once, but it was just sorting potatoes in a freezer for hungry/unhoused neighbors who don't even know I exist. Self-sacrificial types who want to selflessly hurl themselves at people who can't help them back aren't... super appealing tbh. I'll probably do that more but... I need aid too. They're depending on my potatoes, and I'm still depending on ruthless capitalism to survive.

@mikefordays There's 2 million people here, and almost nobody knows their neighbors! The only people who do are in places where there aren't a lot of cars.

@mikefordays Well, rather, depending on someone who depends on retirement from 30 years of loyal service to ruthless capitalism, and maybe a little government assistance from other servants I don't even know who could turn on me at any time. Definitely would be out on the street if not for that. I wonder if there's any projects where the homeless help you back... could use their advice tbh
