This, although from 1996 and thus in a sense modern, really just confuses me. Is that’s just what it’s like to see a WIMP UI for the first time, or is this PaRaDiGm less… reasonable… than the ones that succeeded? I guess I’m set in my ways now and actually less open to new approaches. @uoou

@anjune What is it? I can see bits of everything in there - GEM and Workbench, early windows and mac.I think it just looks confusing to us cos it's still using words a lot rather than iconifying everything?

@uoou It is Xerox GlobalView, a distant descendant of the original GUI…

@uoou This is from 1996 for PCs. It seems to be using a FAT filesystem, going by the directory listing in one of the screenshots…

@uoou Like there’s a template for a spreadsheet file, and you first click that to create a new spreadsheet file, and it opens in the Spreadsheet application? Something like that

@anjune :DI kinda love that. I can see how that makes sense coming from a documents-first company.

@uoou Even makes sense for the "desktop paradigm", as you don’t have a spreadsheet application lying around on your physical desktop. Or maybe you do. I don’t know these things…

@anjune To be fair, if you open an office application by itself, they present you with basically the same thing.Never really clocked how weird that all is.

@anjune I never really got to the bottom of why I hated Win95 so much. And still hate that PARGIDIGNEIM in general.Win 3.x seemed (conceptually) clean and the Win95 way of doing things always just feels messy and icky to me.

@uoou @anjune My dad is of the exact same mindset, but I've always thought Win95 was alright.

@ChrisWere @uoou @anjune Win95 was already an hybrid mix of old DOS, old Win3.1 and new Windows paradigm. I agree it was "not too bad", but it was never great either.
