@abloo no but you can use 'tac` to reverse the file, write to it, then `tac` it again

@abloo Works like this for me:`make clean 2>&1 >/dev/null\&& time (make -s -j4 2>&1 > /dev/null)\&& make clean 2>&1 >/dev/null\&& time (make -j8 -s 2>&1 >/dev/null)`I think with the dollar signs time's trying to do stuff on the *results* of the commands.I didn't get the 'ln not found' error though, that seems like a separate thing. You can use ln in a shell, right?

@abloo I always have the opposite problem. Maybe it's one of mine.

@abloo @GNUxeava IF you're in a situation where you know the file you want the full path of, so find is a bit cumbersome, you can do `readlink -f [file]`. If you want all the files in a directory, `readlink -f *` works.

@abloo (and the reason it can't handle pipes in that way is that the arguments are positional rather than just a stream of text)

@abloo I had a look in the man page to see what that does and... I don't understand what it's saying. Can you explain?

@anjune What is it? I can see bits of everything in there - GEM and Workbench, early windows and mac.I think it just looks confusing to us cos it's still using words a lot rather than iconifying everything?

@anjune To be fair, if you open an office application by itself, they present you with basically the same thing.Never really clocked how weird that all is.

@anjune I never really got to the bottom of why I hated Win95 so much. And still hate that PARGIDIGNEIM in general.Win 3.x seemed (conceptually) clean and the Win95 way of doing things always just feels messy and icky to me.

@hugh's thoughtful reflection on what it all means."a busload of Kontiki tourists just arrived, blundering around yelling at each other and complaining that they don't know how to order room service."https://www.hughrundle.net/home-invasion/@soilseacht's thread about how fedi ought not be moderated like the silos.https://cathode.church/@soilseacht/109315228273772297And @aral talking about the technical implications of not decentralising hard enough and celebrities on fedi.https://ar.al/2022/11/09/is-the-fediverse-about-to-get-fryed-or-why-every-toot-is-also-a-potential-denial-of-service-attack/
