Looking at the flagship smartwatches recently. If I know NOTHING else about them, this is a deal breaker for me:Apple Watch: Up to 18 hours battery life (36 if you turn on low power mode)Google Watch: Up to 24 hours battery life. No. Just no. My current watch is a Fitbit Sense and I get a couple days out of each charge, and even THAT is super annoying. As soon as this one dies, I'm going back to the PineTime full time. All I really want is notifications and step count anyway.

@mike I grabbed a Garmin Vivosmart 4 because I was of the same mindset. I had a Sense, and had a DOA pine64 watch sent to me when I wanted a change of pace... so, went this route instead. Its more a fitness band, but it goes about 3-4 days before you need a charge.

@mike why not try something like withings steel HR? It does a few weeks of battery life if I'm not mistaken. And seems to cover the same points you brought up. https://www.withings.com/us/en/steel-hr

@mike I love my Apple Watch, and most of the time, charging it nightly is no issue, but I feel the battery should be better. A few weeks ago I fell asleep on the couch and my wife didn't want to wake me up, but the next day I had a dead watch because I didn't charge it for 1 night. That was annoying.

@mike The PineTime battery is just immortal 😁 I could use it a week without charging, it's still at 50%. And I have the same needs as you, + the music player app.

@mike I've been using Banglejs 2 for some time. It lasts about 2 weeks. It has a step counter and notifications. If you need something more, you can download apps from their app loader, or write one yourself. The later is the main reason I bought it. I didn't even need a smartwatch, I just like to tinker.

@zeab @mike oh wow, I thought they discontinued this one. Glad to see it's still around. Their tracker band looks good too

@mike Get a Fossil Hybrid HR. Using it with Gadgetbridge. The parser misparses some steps but otherwise kind of ok. No experience with stock apps.

@mikeEighteen *hours*?! I'm already so over charging stuff. There is no way I'd buy a watch that needs charging more often than once a week, even if it sung and danced for me.

@mike before my Apple Watch I had a Garmin Forerunner. I’d only turn the GPS on when I went running and it would last a good couple weeks between charges. No touch screen or anything like that, just tracking exercise sessions. It’s a great watch. I’d assume the modern Forerunners would be similar.

@kev @mike I have a Garmin Fenix 3, and I have similar results. I use the GPS almost every day for a little while, and I still see 4-5 days per charge.

@mike I'm currently using a Amazfit GTR 2e and depending on your settings you can actually get a few weeks of battery life out of the watch 🤔

@kev @mike was going to say - the Garmin Fenix 6 can go a week+. It makes me wish I could have a smartphone with an e-ink display because they are so much better on power consumption.

@mike I used to use Garmin's, very nice. Keep in mind trying to measure Puls with anything else but a belt around your chest is essentially useless. (Source: I used to race mtb-marathons in a team)
