@mike I love my Apple Watch, and most of the time, charging it nightly is no issue, but I feel the battery should be better. A few weeks ago I fell asleep on the couch and my wife didn't want to wake me up, but the next day I had a dead watch because I didn't charge it for 1 night. That was annoying.

For me, Mastodon isn’t a Twitter replacement. I’ve been here for years now and didn’t leave Twitter. Twitters success or demise won’t change my use here. A lot of people are “fleeing” to here from Twitter, but for a lot of us, we came because it’s a different community and we don’t want it to be the next Twitter, we just want it to be Mastodon.

Personally, the most frustrating thing about all the bird site folks coming here so quickly is all of the:“I don’t like Mastodon because [insert something incorrect about Mastodon here].”Maybe that’s just me.

@scottjenson this is incorrect because you have a choice in instance. I chose mine based solely on the owner of it. I can also just launch my own if I wanted to. You’re not asked to trust anyone blindly unless you choose to on your own.

The latest shit show with the Philadelphia Flyers reminds me of why I am so anti-religion and why I wrote Parenting Without God in the first place. I will not raise bigots who use ancient myths to hate others.

I really want to get a VPS server up and running so I can self-host a few things but the expense of it kills me. Anyone have recommendations? DigitalOcean is up to $6/mo per instance. I am looking to first launch Nextcloud and Ghost (I don't like Ghost's pricing on its own).

@stux this hockey season my son broke his took in half during a game.Called a dentist, who offered an appointment 3 weeks from then. Denied my insurance, and wanted to charge more than $1000 for it.Ended up taking more than a week to get him in with a dentist that would take our insurance. Ended up costing a more "reasonable" $250 (with insurance!)

So Bluesky has its first outright Nazi member and not a real strategy on how to handle that. You can’t block users, only mute them so it leaves the community in danger that you can’t outright stop that user from seeing you. This is where these systems fail, when they are so scared of censorship they put users in danger.

More than a week with Threads, and it's good. It's not bad looking, and getting a lot of engagement.What I think hurts it is the fact there's zero innovation. It's just stripped down Twitter, but nicer than Bluesky.However, it's not intuitive enough and is really just a place for brands to interact with other brands.Mastodon is still the best alternative everyone is afraid to use for some reason.
